This was my first LSU/Ole Miss game in Oxford, the only other one I was at was in Jackson in the early 90's. I have always heard that it was a big rivalry, but I had no idea how much these two schools hate each other. The Tiger fans with their "Geaux Tiger" banners (dirty cajuns!) and their "Geaux to H*** Ole Miss" banners as well (Ahh the love) and Ole miss with their chant of "Purple stripe on yellow britches, Go to H*** you sons of...well, you know. It's kind of sad to see grown men saying these things to each other, but that's what college football rivalries will do to each other sometimes. Sorry, State fans, but this rivalry is probably bigger than the Egg Bowl rivalry. Yep, that's right, Ole Miss hates LSU more than you, sorry. We did have a lot of fun despite the obnoxious fans that exist at every college football game.
The almost greates part of the game was where Leslie and I almost got to sit. We realized when we were almost to Oxford, that we had forgotten our tickets. So we decide to go to the Ticket Office and see if they could print us some more, since we oredered them from the internet, and our originals were print outs anyway. Well, they were able to, only on these tickets the seat and row numbers were not ther, only a blank ticket with a barcode. So as we were about to go in the gate with Kevin & Crystal we were told that they could scan our tickets in at the main gate. So we went to the main gate and they gladly scanned our tickets in as we walk into a gated area with elevators to our right. They put an wrist band on us and told us to go up the elevators. We thought it was kind of weird, but we followed the group of people there. As we got off we realized were in the suites of the south end zone. Well, long story short, we had to get security to let us back into the "normal" people part of the stadium so that we could sit with our friends. They were puzzled when we said we didn't want to sit in the "suites". Had we been by ourselves, we may have obliged, but we decided we would rather sit with friends in the cold, rather than watch the game in luxury and style. Ahh well.
By the way, the one bright spot of the game was the Hit Ole Miss linebacker Patrick Willis laid on LSU Running Back Justin Vincent near the goal line. Willis lifted him up in the air and slammed him down. The guy is a big time player, look for him to be playing on Sundays real soon. Here's a picture
Have a great Tuesday!
