WOW!! What a game. West Point pulled through to win the State Championship against the War Eagles of Wayne County 17-15. This was one of the greatest high school games I have ever seen. West Point was leading 17-9 with just over 3 minutes to go in the game and steadily driving down the field on the WC defense. On 4th & inches from WC's 5 yard-line WP decides to go for it instead of kicking a field goal. WC stops them for a loss and takes over, they then proceed to drive the ball 93 yards down the field to score a touchdown to make it 17-15. On the 2-point conversion try WP's defensive back intercepts it. However the game was not over yet. WC recovers the ensuing on-side kick recovering it at the WP 34 yard-line. Three plays and 2 quarterback sacks later WC was facing a 4th & 27 from their own 48. They then throw an icomplete pass and WP took over with about 30 seconds left and took a knee to win the game. I didn't get to go to the game, but did get to watch the game on TV, and at the end I was jumping up and down like a little kid on Christmas. I grew up learning to love High School football in the 80's during the Green Wave Glory Days, and this game served as a reminder of why I love a sport so pure and innocent, free from major contracts and full scholarships, just a bunch of teenagers playing a game they love with all of the heart and determination they could muster.
GO GREEN WAVE!!!!!!
