Katrina Shelter

Timmy and I got to go to the shelter last night and help out a little bit. We got to move some clothes to the church building to be sorted, and we also got to mop the bathroom. I haven't had to do that in a while. I considered it a privelege though.

We got to talk to a few people last night. I met a man named Shane who said he had been sleeping by Hwy. 50 for three days before he found out there was a shelter to go to. He seemed very grateful to just have food to eat and a roof over his head.

Another man was getting very irritated and was obviously ready to get out of there and go back home. There were people trying to encourage him, and to top it all off he was excited about watching the NFL game that was coming on on the dish network they had set up at the shelter, but unfortunately they couldn't pick up the local channel that the game was airing on. He was a little upset.

I hope to get to go back maybe this weekend. There are some interesting people there. I know most are probably grateful to have a place to stay, but I am sure it is hard to be in a place with 70 or 80 people all day, even when it's time to go to bed. It causes me to be extremely thankful for the apartment I live in (with only one other person) and a car to get around in. I hope that they get get back on their feet quickly and are able to start a new life. Please be in prayer that these special people will get the things that they need.

Have a great weekend, and don't drive too much or you'll go broke paying for the gas. When have we ever been happy to see gas at $2.66 a gallon?

C-ya!
