Man Overboard!

As Christians we so often become very comfortable with where we are on our journey. Go to church, talk to our friends there, spend time with family, etc., etc. Comfort zones are nice, they make us feel secure and safe, free from harm.

The bad thing about comfort zones is that it clouds our view of what's wrong around us. The hurt and suffering, the evil that is so prevelant in society today. We tend to ignore it, because we know that we might actually have to confront it if we notice it too much.

There is so much that is wrong with the world today, and it's not like the world has ever been perfect. So why do we ignore the solutions, or should I say THE solution? These things are not only taking place outside of the church walls, but within them as well. Too often they are ignored, swept under the carpet, taken too lightly. Why are we so afraid to jump out there, to get our hands dirty, and do something about them.

We have the solution, as Christians, hidden in our hearts, only God intends for that to be released, through our mouths and through our actions. We are in a spiritual battle, an epic struggle between the forces of good and the forces of evil. Yet too often we walk around with our blinders on, ignoring those that need us the most.

We need to look at the people who are drowning in the waters of sin, wanting on the ship. Those who have fallen overboard, needing the lifeline to be tossed towards them, needing us to jump into the waters to rescue them and bring them back aboard. Is it fear that keeps us away? I really don't know, maybe it's the contentment with where we are. Once again, I'm not sure. Maybe we feel as if there are those that are unreachable.

We will never have all the answers, or be a perfect servant. But let's start by looking around, opening up our eyes to the world around us and the suffering within it. Let's try to extend a hand to those in need, and be Christ to a suffering world. There are many ways to help. Why is it so hard?

I'll never really know. But I guess I just need to dive in.
